Git Commands

Below are some commonly used Git commands for reference.

Command	Description
`git checkout -b <new-branch-name> <from-branch-name>`	Create a local branch from a specific branch
`git push -u origin <branch-name>`	Push local branch to remote
`git fetch`	Track and fetch all the remote changes
`git pull`	Update local repository to the newest commit
`git status`	Check the status; shows any updates you did on your local repository
`git restore <file url>` or `git restore .`	Undo changes for a specific file or all files
`git add <file>` or `git add .`	Add a file or all files to the local staging
`git commit -m "<commit message>"`	Commit the changes; message should be descriptive but brief
`git pull origin <branch name> --rebase`	Pull changes from remote repository
`yarn start`	Can use either of the two. View the local staging
`yarn build`	Check if there is error
`git push`	Push changes from local to the remote repository

This describes the naming conventions for creating branches and Merge Requests in GitLab.

Other standards to follow:

Checkout the base branch then pull previous changes:

git checkout <base branch> 
git pull
```

Create a new branch:

git checkout -b <new branch> <base branch>

Once you've created a new branch, make the necessary changes to the files in your project.

After committing the changes locally, push the new branch to the remote GitLab repository:

git push -u origin <new branch>

git push

Go to your GitLab project page in the browser.
You will see a prompt to create a Merge Request once the branch has been pushed. Alternatively:

On the New Merge Request page, click Change branches to select the target branch for merging. Select the source branch (the branch you just pushed, e.g., feature-xyz) and the target branch (usually staging).

Click Compare branches and continue. Add a descriptive title and provide any additional comments explaining your changes.

(Optional) You can add tags, such as "urgent," under Labels.
Once you're ready, click Create merge request.
After submitting, the Merge Request will be visible to your team or project maintainers for review.

Once reviewed and approved, someone can merge the changes to the Master branch.
